The Heart of Organic Wines - Paterinakis Winery
A Legacy of Organic Winemaking
Domaine Paterianakis began its journey on a picturesque plateau at an altitude of 500 meters, an area rich in herbs like oregano, sage, thyme, lavender, and honeysuckle—plants beloved by bees. Emmanuel Paterianakis, one of the pioneers of organic viticulture in the region, chose this method to preserve the natural beauty and protect the essential work of bees, crucial for pollination and food production. This harmonious relationship between bees and vines has made the bee a symbol of the Domaine.
Embracing Nature and Tradition
The commitment to organic farming at Domaine Paterianakis goes beyond winemaking; it’s about sustaining the ecosystem. Bees, with their critical role in pollination, help ensure healthy crops and biodiversity. This philosophy of respect for nature is evident in the wines produced here, each bottle embodying the essence of the Cretan land and its traditions.
Welcome to Tonia's Cottage in Alagni!
Just a short drive away, you'll find the exquisite Domaine Paterianakis, one of the best wineries in Crete, nestled in the heart of the Peza wine region. Founded in 1988 by Giorgos Paterianakis, this winery has become synonymous with quality Cretan wine. The third generation of the Paterianakis family, Emmanuela and Niki, are continuing this proud tradition, focusing on organic farming to create authentic wines with a strong personality.

Meet the Paterianakis Sisters
Emmanuela and Niki Paterianakis are the dynamic duo behind the Domaine’s success. Emmanuela, the chief oenologist since 2007, has a background in wine science and has worked with prominent Greek wineries. Her passion for exploring local grape varieties and organic winemaking techniques shines through in every bottle. Niki, a chemical engineer, manages the commercial aspects of the winery. She is also deeply involved in enotourism, ensuring visitors experience the rich heritage of Cretan winemakin
Tonia's Favorite Wine: Melissokipos Kotsifali-Mandilari
As the host of Tonia's Cottage, I’m excited to recommend my favorite wine from Domaine Paterianakis—Melissokipos Kotsifali-Mandilari. This organic blend, with its deep red color, is perfect for everyday occasions. Kotsifali, known as the region’s Pinot Noir, offers elegant aromas and a unique personality, while Mandilari, with its intense color and rich tannins, adds depth and smoothness.
This wine beautifully represents the marriage of tradition and innovation at Domaine Paterianakis.
